Augusta is located on the Georgia/South Carolina border about 150 miles east of Atlanta. Augusta has become a center for medicine, biotechnology, and the military. The Medical College of Georgia, Savannah River Site (a Department of Energy nuclear facility), and the U.S. Army Signal Center at Fort Gordon are the city's largest employers.
One of the most famous golf courses in the world, the Augusta National Golf Club hosts the prestigious Masters tournament every April.
Augusta is also known for being the hometown of the renowned singer/performer James Brown.
