(All Times Eastern) – The air is crisp and the leaves are falling. Your favorite fall sweatshirt keeps you cozy and comfortable as you watch your favorite shows. October not only conjures up thoughts of colorful trees, but colorful and creative Halloween costumes which leads to even creepier and scarier shows and movies. Let’s look at some of the Halloween offerings cable has this year before we get into the other great programming to be found next month.

If you are looking for family-friendly Halloween movies, Freeform is the place to be. And for the first year ever, the network's Halloween programming will last throughout the entire month of October! During 31 Nights of Halloween, which begins October 1, there will be an emphasis on Hocus Pocus in celebration of the movie's 25th anniversary. It will also feature some great movies like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, ParaNorman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Addams Family, Dark Shadows, The Goonies, Maleficent, Monsters, Inc, Monsters University, Hotel Transylvania, Spooky Buddies, Jurassic Park, The Haunted Mansion, and more.

In the more “grown-up” category, we first turn to AMC. Fans of The Walking Dead can watch the entire series with Zombie Apocalypse Week beginning on October 2 at 9:00 am and running through to the season nine premiere of The Walking Dead on Sunday, October 7 at 9:00 pm. Then, celebrating its 22nd anniversary, AMC’s FearFest – an annual tradition for many fans of the genre – is back this year and runs from October 14 through to Halloween night on October 31. The marathon will feature the best in both contemporary and classic horror movies. AMC Fear Fest - Gory Matters Here.

31 Days of Halloween returns to Syfy for a month of the scariest, creepiest, and most ghoulish everything to get you into the Halloween spirit. Tune in almost any time in October and you are likely to be treated to movies and movie franchises like Insidious, Cabin in the Woods, Leatherface, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, American Psycho, Van Helsing, Wrong Turn, Jeepers Creepers, The Haunting in Connecticut and more. Plus, Syfy is showing all eight Harry Potter movies in October, two each Sunday (and again on Mondays) beginning October 7. Syfy is also offering a new instalment of the popular anthology series, Channel Zero, which returns with The Dream Door based on the “creepypasta” short story “Hidden Door” by Charlotte Bywater. Premiering over six consecutive nights from Friday, October 26 through Halloween Night, Wednesday, October 31 at 11:00 pm, Channel Zero: The Dream Door follows newlyweds Jillian and Tom, who have each brought secrets into their marriage. When they discover a strange door in their basement, those secrets start to threaten their relationship and their lives.

You’ve also got some real-life haunts over on Travel Channel. During all of October, on Friday nights you can join the Tennessee Wraith Chasers as they conduct paranormal investigations LIVE during Haunted Live beginning at 10:00 pm. Saturday nights at 9:00 pm you can tag along with Zac Baggins as he and his team investigate some of the most haunted places in America on Ghost Adventures. Round out the weekend with Sunday night scares where you can watch Paranormal Survivor, Scariest Night of My Life and Most Terrifying Places in America, all beginning at 9:00 pm.

Besides frights, how about some tasty delights? Over on Food Network you’ll find all kinds of Halloween themed shows to inspire your inner baker. On Sundays you can find Halloween Wars at 9:00 pm and the Haunted Gingerbread Showdown at 10:00 pm and on Mondays you get the Halloween Baking Championship at 9:00 pm. You can also catch two Monday night specials with Halloween Cake-Off on October 8 at 10:00 pm and Trisha’s Halloween Spooktacular on October 15 at 8:00 pm.

Lastly, the magic returns this fall with an all-new Good Witch Halloween event on Hallmark Channel. The hit series has a family-friendly vibe and their annual specials are a staple for fans. Tune in for the two-hour program on Sunday, October 21 at 9:00 pm.

If you aren’t into all the scares and gore and revelry of Halloween, there are plenty of other scripted and unscripted programming options for you in October.

Lace up your boots because you're about to embark on the journey of a lifetime with the family that's bringing khaki back! The Irwins - Terri, Bindi and Robert - return to Animal Planet in a new series that gives audiences an all-access, front row seat to experience the sights and sounds of their thrilling wildlife adventures around the globe and the amazing animals that continue to inspire their conservation efforts. From running Australia's largest family-owned zoo, Australia Zoo in Queensland, to crisscrossing the world protecting and celebrating the most wondrous animals on the planet, the Irwins work thoughtfully and tirelessly to carry on Steve's mission to bring people closer to animals and ignite the connection that will ensure an abundance of wildlife for generations to come. Crikey! It’s the Irwins launches as a global series premiere beginning Sunday, October 28 at 8:00 pm.

BET is set to air their annual Hip Hop Awards again on Tuesday, October 16 at 8:00 pm. The annual awards showcases hip hop performers, producers and music video directors. With live performances and the now famous hip hop cyphers, this show is always a spectacle.

The “Stud of the Sea”, Captain Lee, and his most trusted chief stewardess, Kate Chastain, are back for another season of above-deck demands and below-deck drama in Tahiti in the original Below Deck. It airs Tuesdays beginning October 2 at 9:00 pm on Bravo.

In Trans Am, the Warmack brothers embark on a forward-looking journey, fueled by nostalgia, to restore and recreate an American staple while forging a reputation in the tough auto industry. Trans Am premieres on Tuesday, October 2 at 10:00 pm on Discovery.

Over on the Golf Channel, Driver vs. Driver 2 will follow the trials and tribulations of 14 aspiring golf equipment designers in an elimination-style television series where they will compete for the opportunity have their concepts transformed into prototypes, field tested, critiqued and refined. Ultimately, one driver concept will be left standing, with the designer winning $250,000 and the final driver hitting retail stores worldwide. Tune in beginning on October 2 at 9:00 pm.

Join the Property Brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott, at 9:00 pm on Thursday, October 4 as they help homeowners sell their current home and buy a new property in HGTV's series, Buying and Selling. Jonathan renovates the family's current home for a successful sale, while Drew checks out the best options for the family's new property. Drew then oversees the selling of the renovated home and the buying of a new house.

A few years back, Shelby Stanga lost his business. Now, The Return of Shelby the Swamp Man follows Shelby's comeback deep in the bayou. The show highlights his expertise, ingenuity, humor and overall craziness. Shelby will teach a new generation the ins and outs of the swamp. In the end, Shelby's determination to help those around him and help himself in the process will be his greatest adventure yet. And there's nothing that will stop him to get the job done. See how he does beginning Thursdays, October 11 at 10:00 pm on History.

The folks at TLC have a lot planned for you to watch this October. Long Island Medium and Long Lost Family return on Monday, October 8 beginning at 8:00 pm. The Little Couple returns on Tuesday, October 9 at 8:00 pm where we follow Jen and Bill as they get back into the groove of regular life after navigating two international adoptions, Jen’s battle with cancer and Bill’s back surgery. And follow along with top celebrities as they navigate through incredibly personal journeys to unlock the mysteries of their ancestors which are sure to change their lives forever. Who Do You Think You Are returns on Friday, October 19 at 10:00 pm.

Perhaps you like those original movies from Hallmark Channel which are all about love. Falling for You (October 6 at 9:00 pm) is about a small New England town's radio station manager who meets her match in a visiting businessman who can't seem to see beyond his laptop screen. In Under the Autumn Moon (October 13 at 9:00 pm), while visiting a dude ranch, Alex reignites her passion for the great outdoors and becomes smitten with the ranch's owner in the process. Love, Of Course (October 20 at 8:00 pm) is about Amy who has spent most of her adult life “helicoptering” around her daughter, Cara especially since her husband died six years earlier. With reluctance, Amy is helping Cara head off to college in another city. She then “conveniently” lands a job at Cara's college, much to Cara's dismay. When Amy meets Noah, a charismatic, well-traveled professor, she learns more about herself and discovers a new life of her own, filled with romance.

Maybe you want some original movies with a little more suspense in them? Lifetime has three movies in October all inspired by true events, but are a little darker. In The Girl in the Bathtub (October 7 at 8:00 pm) a young paralegal is found dead in her boss’ bathtub. But is the lawyer to blame or does one of her other lovers have a motive? Terror in the Woods (October 14 at 8:00 pm) is about two young girls who fall for an internet urban legend and decide to kill a third friend in a ritual sacrifice to save their own families. And from the hard to believe files comes The Lover in the Attic (October 28 at 8:00 pm) a married woman moves her lover into the attic for convenience. But can she stop his jealous rage from turning into action?

That covers a lot of scripted and unscripted programming for October, but we’ve still got sports schedules for you to check out.
