Giving Thanks for All the Great Cable Programming This November

(All Times Eastern) – As autumn completes its cycle and we start settling in for the cooler months ahead, we are warmed by thoughts of Thanksgiving with family, fall sports and shopping for the holidays. So as you start thinking about shopping for the season, also remember that cable is a great place to reach your clients and let them know about your holiday offerings. Let’s take a look at some of the cable programming coming up this November.

We’ll start with some of the obvious things…holiday programming. While we aren’t completely buried in the holiday madness yet, lots of holiday programming is already gracing your screens. Hallmark Channel is already airing holiday movies all day long (except during their Home and Family daytime block) with their “Countdown to Christmas” marathon. Hallmark’s library of original movies as well as numerous new titles for this year make up most of the schedule. Freeform has “Kickoff to Christmas” running all month long. Here you’ll find holiday-esque movies airing weekdays during primetime and all day on the weekends. Lifetime kicks off their “It’s A Wonderful Lifetime” stunt beginning on Nov. 17 with 14 new originals and multiple holiday classics. And new this year is the “Best Christmas Ever” holiday marathon from AMC beginning Nov. 26. They have aggregated the largest collection of holiday titles in their history and promise the most Christmas programming on all of television with over 600 hours of timeless classics and family favorites including titles such as Elf, The Polar Express, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and many more.

But if you are one of those who, like me, want to relegate Christmas back to December only, then you may be interested in some of these other great programming options in the month of November.

Storage Wars returns to A&E at 10:00 pm on Nov. 7. All the buyers return to use their extensive knowledge and clever strategies to bid on abandoned storage lockers at auctions throughout Southern California. Lean Remini is back with her hit series Scientology and the Aftermath on Nov. 27 at 10:00 pm. The series takes a deep-dive into shocking stories of abuse, heartbreak and harassment experienced by those who have left the church and have spoken publicly about their experiences. A&E is also presenting a three-night mini-series beginning on Nov. 18 at 9:00 pm that probes deep into The Clinton Affair. With never-before-seen archival footage and exclusive new interviews, the series examines the biggest political scandal of a generation and its lasting influence on our country.

In a follow-up to last year’s highly successful John le Carre adaptation of The Night Manager over on AMC, comes a new tale that weaves together a suspenseful and explosive story of espionage and high-stakes international intrigue. Catch another le Carre tale with The Little Drummer Girl airing over three nights beginning Nov. 19 at 9:00 pm.

The Soul Train Awards comes back to BET on Nov. 25 at 8:00 pm. This annual award show honors the best in Black music and entertainment and features musical performances by various R&B and Soul recording artists.

Bravo is getting into some new categories these days. First, in the scripted genre comes Dirty John. It’s a cautionary tale of the romance between Debra and the charismatic con-man John, which spiraled into a frightening web of deception, denial and mental terror that nearly tore a family apart. The eight-episode anthology begins at 10:00 pm on Nov. 25. Then, Bravo makes their way into the home improvement arena with Buying It Blind and Sweet Home. In Buying It Blind, Nov. 2 at 8:00 pm, six couples who cannot agree on a home buying decision surrender total financial and creative control to a team of experts who buy a home for them, unseen by the couples. In Sweet Home, Nov 2. at 10:00 pm, Jennifer Welch is the choice for high-end, creative interior design vision in Oklahoma City. She and her team transforms lackluster homes and offices into breathtaking spaces. And what would Bravo be without some Housewives drama? The ladies of Atlanta come back on Nov. 4 at 8:00 pm and the New Jersey gals sweep in on Nov. 11 at 9:00 pm.

The People’s Choice Awards moves to E! for the first time in history on Nov. 11. This is the only awards show that is voted on by the general public. Catch all the celebrity red carpet arrivals with Live from the Red Carpet beginning at 7:00 pm until the ceremony starts at 9:00 pm.

Three weekend shows premiere on Food Network this month. Girl Meets Farm returns on Nov. 11 at 11:00 am. Just in time for the holidays, food blogger and best-selling cookbook author Molly Yeh welcomes viewers back to her cozy Midwest farmhouse for a new season filled with her unique spin on comfort food, inspired by her Jewish and Chinese background and a taste of the Midwest. Then there can never be too many cooks in Guy's Ranch Kitchen, as Guy Fieri and some of his celebrity chef friends cook up spectacular spreads on the new season beginning Nov. 17 at 12:30 pm. Finally, country music artist Martina McBride steps into the kitchen for the new series Martina’s Table on Nov. 18 at 12:00 pm, where she’ll share entertaining and cooking tips.

History has a whole bunch of high profile shows coming in November. Mini-series Watergate begins Nov. 2 at 9:00 pm and tells, for the first time, the entire story of the Watergate scandal, from the first troubling signs in Richard Nixon’s presidency to Nixon’s resignation and beyond. The Curse of Oak Island returns for a massive thirty-episode season beginning on Nov. 13 at 9:00 pm. Two brothers seek a mysterious buried treasure where an ominous legend says that seven people must die in pursuit of the treasure. Have they found what they are looking for, or will one more perish? And acclaimed series Vikings premieres on Nov. 28 at 9:00 pm. This season, Ivar believes he’s a god on earth and rules with a dictator’s fist, but the civil war is far from over, as the battle for the rightful throne of Kattegat rages on.

Mars is a look at what occupation of the planet may one day look like. Part scripted and part documentary, this season looks at the challenges faced when multiple people co-exist on a desolate planet. Catch Mars on National Geographic beginning Nov. 12 at 9:00 pm. And you can watch intimate interviews between Neil deGrasse Tyson and guests hewn from pop culture, politics or news, as they discuss how science and technology have affected their lives and careers. Another season of Startalk debuts Nov. 12 at 11:00 pm.

Over on USA, a new competition series is born as emerging solo artists, duos and groups to perform in showcases that spotlight the rich traditions, songs and themes of country music. But only existing superstars Shania Twain, Jake Owen and Travis Tritt can offer them a shot at stardom. Watch Real Country beginning Nov. 13 at 10:00 pm.

Lastly, the original Love and Hip Hop returns to New York on VH1 on Nov. 26 at 8:00 pm. The new "it" couple, Joe Budden and Cyn Santana, star alongside several newcomers and series vets who are climbing their way to the top in the city that never sleeps.

That covers a lot of scripted and unscripted programming for November, but we’ve still got sports schedules for you to check out.
